We are sorry to learn that you have been involved in a road traffic accident with our insured client. Liability is accepted for this incident, and we would like to offer our services to you. Our goal is to ensure that your claim is dealt with as quickly as possible, with minimum inconvenience to you, whilst also assisting you with your duty to mitigate your losses.

We can supply you with a replacement car, commercial vehicle, or licensed Public/Private hire taxi for either the repair duration, or, if your vehicle is deemed a total loss, for an additional 7 days after an offer has been made for the total loss.

A summary of the benefits of dealing directly with us at Haven Claims are:

  • Access to our network of approved repairers to repair your damaged vehicle.
  • If you’d prefer to use your own garage, we can arrange an engineer to authorise repairs with them.
  • If your vehicle is deemed a total loss, subject to checks we can raise payment for the vehicle value.
  • Provide you with a replacement vehicle/licensed taxi at no cost to you whilst your vehicle is off the road.
  • There will be no effect on your own No Claims Discount.
  • You will not be charged an excess for your vehicle damage, like under your own insurance policy.
  • Haven Insurance will cover the cost for our services.
  • Payment of your loss of earnings for the period you are not able to work, subject to relevant documents being provided and validation checks.

FAQs

Q: Will this cost me anything at all?
A: No, however it is common practice for the hire company to request a debit or credit card authorisation to ensure the hire company is protected in the event that you are issued with any fixed penalty notices, fines or return the vehicle without the same amount of fuel as when you were supplied the vehicle.
Q: What if I use another hire company that is not organised by with Haven Insurance?
A: You have the option to choose a hire company organised by us at no additional cost, or if you wish, you can use a hire company of your own choice. However, if you choose to use another hire company to hire a car that is not organised by us, you may need to pay for that service.
Q: What if I have already been supplied with a hire vehicle?
A: We would offer to replace your current hire vehicle with the same vehicle but at a lower cost. This will help you in your duty to mitigate your losses by avoiding the potential credit hire charges for your current vehicle. If you use a hire company organised by us, the cost of the hire vehicle will be paid for by Haven Insurance.
Q: Will I be able to use the replacement vehicle for business use, hire and reward or commuting?
A: We will provide a hire vehicle that absolutely suits your specific needs. Therefore, if you already use your vehicle for business use, you will be able to use the replacement vehicle for business use.
Q: Are there any mileage restrictions on this replacement vehicle?
A: You will be able to use the hire vehicle in the same way you used your own.
Q: How long can I keep the replacement vehicle?

A: You will be able to use the replacement vehicle until either

  • your own vehicle is returned to you repaired, or
  • up to seven days after an offer has been made for the total loss (write off) of your own vehicle.
Q: Are additional drivers allowed?
A: If there were additional drivers on your insurance policy that you were using at the time of the incident, this will be mirrored for your replacement vehicle at no additional cost.
Q: Will I have to sign anything?
A: You will usually be required to sign a document which confirms that you have received the replacement vehicle and that you are responsible for any fixed penalties or fines that you incur whilst using the vehicle (as you would be with your own vehicle).
Q: Will I have to pay for any damage caused to the hire vehicle whilst in my possession?
A: We will pay the difference between your current policy excess and that of the hire company’s. Therefore, this puts you in exactly the same position you would have been in should you be driving your own vehicle. The maximum to be paid will be the excess amount for your current policy. You may also have the option (should you require it) to purchase a ‘’Damage Waiver’’ which would reduce the excess to £0.
Q: Why is mitigating losses important?
A: It’s down to every person involved to mitigate any ongoing losses. The reason being, that if you are seen to have chosen the more expensive car or labour rate for repairs when you had the option to keep the cost down the difference may not be recoverable, and as such the hire company may look to you for payment of the difference.
